Fast Starts Lifts Methodist To a 3-0 Volleyball Win Over Pfeiffer

Misenheimer, N.C. (Oct. 23, 2019) – Visiting Methodist University hit for a .220 percentage while forcing the Pfeiffer University volleyball team into just a .037 outing in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-15) win over the Falcons at Merner Gym on Wednesday night.

In the first set, Methodist jumped out to an early 6-0 lead forcing the Falcons to call an early timeout.  The Monarch lead would swell to 10-0 before Pfeiffer scored on a service error.  The Falcons did claw back to cut the deficit to just 19-16, but Methodist rebounded for the 25-20 win.

In the second set, Methodist got off to another fast start, jumping to a 7-2 lead.  Pfeiffer then fought back to tie the match at 14-14 after a kill from sophomore Alonna Clouse (Harrisburg, N.C.).  Methodist would reel off four straight points to take the 18-14 lead and would not let the Falcons get back within two points the rest of the way, earning the 25-19 win.

Methodist again jumped out to another big lead in the third set, this time a 10-4 run to start the set.  The closest the Falcons would get would be six points on two separate occasions, with the latter coming at 16-10 following a kill from Emma Gray Beacham (Laurinburg, N.C.).  Methodist then built their lead to 22-12 and never looked back, taking the match in set three by a 25-15 final.

Clouse led all Falcons with nine kills while Megan Andrews paced Methodist with 14. Freshman Kaitlyn Kilts (Madison, N.C.) had a team-best 14 digs while Beacham added 15 assists in the loss.

Pfeiffer drops to 12-11 overall and 3-8 in USA South play while Methodist improves to 5-15 overall and 4-8 in conference play.

The Falcons will hit the road for their next matches on Oct. 26, taking on host Averett in a USA South tri-match at Noon in Danville, Va.  Pfeiffer will then face William Peace at 2:00 p.m.
