Pete Szelwach

Pete Szelwach joined the Pfeiffer Track & Field coaching staff in Fall of 2023. He primarily works with the Throws group, while also assisting with the Jumps and Sprints groups.

Pete has over 6 years of experience coaching the Throwing events at the prep level, dating back to his senior year of high school. In that time, he has coached 3 National Champions, 9 All-Americans, 12 Individual State Champions, and a multitude of additional State Medalists. To date, 10 of his male athletes have surpassed 50 feet in the Shot Put while 5 of his female athletes have surpassed 40 feet. In Discus, he has coached 8 males over 160 feet and 5 females over 130 feet. 

He joins Pfeiffer after most recently serving as the Head Coach of Throws Revolution, a Charlotte-based Throws Instruction club he founded in 2020. In the club’s inaugural season, Pete coached 5 separate athletes to State Championship Titles and 2 athletes to top-3 finishes at the USATF Junior Olympic Championships. Since then, his athletes have captured 3 National Titles, 3 State Classification records, 6 All-American finishes, and multiple additional State Titles. In 2023, Pete notably coached a junior female athlete to a USATF Junior Olympics National Championship and North Carolina #2 all-time mark of 169’10 in the Discus Throw. 

Prior to starting Throws Revolution, Pete served as a Volunteer Coach for the Asheville Lightning Track Club (2017-2018) and Mallard Creek High School (2019-2020). In that time, he coached a first-year Thrower to a State Title in Discus and assisted another athlete to a State Title and All-American finish. 

Pete graduated from UNC Charlotte in 2020 with a B.S. in Marketing Analytics. While at Charlotte, he briefly competed as a member of the Track & Field team. He is also a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and USATF Certified Level I Coach.

Pete currently resides in Harrisburg, NC where he enjoys powerlifting.
