MOUNT OLIVE , N.C. â€" Mount Olive weathered a Pfeiffer comeback for a 30-24, 30-28, 21-30, 21-30, 15-10 win in Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball Friday at Kornegay Arena. Mount Olive (6-8 overall, 2-1 Conference Carolinas) built a 26-17 lead in game one and held on after Pfeiffer (7-5, 1-2) pulled within five points. Pfeiffer controlled most of game two, building a 25-15 lead. A Pfeiffer hitting error capped the 10-point run as the Trojans tied the game 25-25. The game was tied 28-28 when Bartley recorded a kill and an ace to give Mount Olive a two-game lead. In the third game, Petra Lubicic helped spark Pfeiffer to a late run as the Falcons broke away from a 17-16 lead to get the win and stay in the match. Aces by Lubicic and Brittany Dickens in game four helped stake Pfeiffer to a late 11-point lead and the Falcons were able to force a fifth game. Mitchell served back-to-back aces in the fifth game to give Mount Olive a 12-6 lead. Pfeiffer pulled within 13-10, but after a side out gave the Trojans match point, Alicia Mote put home her 10th kill to close out the win. Lubicic led four Pfeiffer players in double figures with 16 kills, while Lauren Spiotta finished with 14 kills and Dickens and Gabby McKinley added 10 kills apiece. Morgan Liebert recorded 55 assists, while Lubicic and Dickens each served three aces. Pfeiffer travels to Wilson , N.C. , Saturday at noon to take on Barton. |
