Defense Turns Up Stellar Again as Women's Basketball Rolls Anderson 77-59

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Defense for Pfeiffer University came up big again as the Lady Falcons held Anderson University to just 26.3% shooting from the field in a 77-59 victory over the Trojans on Monday night. The win gives Pfeiffer its fourth-straight inside Conference Carolinas play improving to 9-7 overall, 9-2 in league play. Anderson dips their mark to 9-7, 8-3.

Midway through the first period, the contest had seen four ties and five lead changes before Pfeiffer took over. After a Celeste Caudill (Sparta, NC) three gave the Lady Falcons a one-point lead 15-14, Pfeiffer proceeded on a 19-3 run with nine of those points being scored by Domonique China (Durham, NC). Down by 17, 34-17, with 1:35 to go in the first, the Trojans closed out the half on a 9-0 run with five of those points going to Alexa Neal (Greensboro, NC). Pfeiffer took a 34-26 lead into the break.

Neal would drain a three at the 18:13 mark of the second period, before Pfeiffer ran away from Anderson for good. A 9-2 stretch with layups from Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) and Jamila Harris (Danville, VA), coupled with another 10-4 run just minutes later, gave Pfeiffer a 62-45 lead after a Shelley Reese (Brown Summit, NC) three. The Lady Falcons closed the contest out with a 9-1 final run for the impressive 77-59 win.

Neal led all scorers with 19 on the night. Amanda Parris (Summerville, GA) was the only other Trojan in double-figures finishing with 10. China again led the Lady Falcons with 17 points, followed by Harvey's 12, Caudill's 11 and Charlotte Fuller's (Moorestown, NJ) 10.

Pfeiffer held Anderson to 15-of-57 shooting from the floor (26.3%) knocking down 29 shots of their own at 47.5%. The Lady Falcons finished +10 in the rebound count and helped out each other with 11 more assists that Anderson at 16-5.

The Lady Falcons will head out on the road Thursday night to take on Lees-McRae at 5:30 p.m. Pfeiffer will return home on Saturday afternoon in a rematch with Queens beginning at 2:00 p.m.
