BELMONT, N.C. - Despite a trio of Falcons recording eight kills, the Pfeiffer women's volleyball team (0-18, 0-11 CC) continued its losing streak with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Belmont Abbey (9-12, 7-4). Pfeiffer had no answer for Hannah Schellenberg who tied a career-high with 26 kills on the evening.
Schellenberg finished with 58 total attempts and a .345 hitting percentage in the match, while adding seven digs and four service aces along with an assisted block. Caitlin Hankins added 12 kills and a .500 hitting percentage for the Crusaders.
Pfeiffer was led by Laura Fortner, Andrea Lopez and Allison Rosas who each produced eight kills. Rosas led the Falcons with a .160 hitting percentage on the evening and chipped in nine digs. Libero Haley Denny finished the match with a game-high 24 digs and added three service aces. Middle blocker Kelsey Blauser had four solo blocks and five kills on the evening.
The Crusaders took the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-17 before the Falcons rallied. Belmont Abbey led for the majority of the third set before Pfeiffer took its first lead off a kill from Fortner that put Pfeiffer ahead 17-16. The teams would alternate the next 12 points in the seesaw battle as the hosts took a timeout trailing 23-22. A Crusader attack error put the Falcons at game point but Lopez's attack error cut the margin to 24-23. However, the Falcons would take the game off a final Crusader attack error.
Belmont Abbey then dominated the fourth set, winning by a final count of 25-10 to improve to three games over .500 in league play.
The Falcons have nine days until their next match which takes place at Mount Olive next Friday evening.ÂÂ
