Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer women's volleyball team lost a nail biting 3-2 match to Mount Olive on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons dropped the first two sets 25-20 before back-to-back victories. The comeback bid fell just short in a 15-12 fifth set loss. Shenelle Charlot had a stellar performance recording a double-double with 10 digs, 22 kills and a .348 hitting percentage.
After dropping the first two sets the Falcons dominated the third set winning 25-16. Talor Hewitt ignited a 3-0 run with back-to-back services aces followed by a Kayla Hyatt kill extending the Falcons lead to 23-13. Hyatt slammed the door on the Trojans with a kill giving Pfeiffer a 25-16 victory.
The fourth set was an exciting back and forth game as Pfeiffer took a 12-8 lead following a 4-0 run. Laura Ann Fortner sparked the run with a kill and capped it off with a service ace. With the match tied 25-25, Charlot ended the set with a bang recording back-to-back kills giving the Falcons a 27-25 victory.
Mount Olive jumped out to a 7-1 lead to start the fifth set. The Falcons answered back with a 4-0 run of their own highlighted by back-to-back service aces by Kirsten Hunt. However, the comeback bid fell just short.
Britni Johnson recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs for the Trojans. Danielle Stachura registered a match-high 25 assists for Mount Olive.
Two other Falcons joined Charlot with double-doubles Hyatt provided 11 kills, a match-high 18 digs and Fortner contributed 13 kills to go along with 12 digs. Hunt recorded a match-high seven services aces for Pfeiffer. Katie Wilson had a team-high 23 assists to go along with four digs and one services ace.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday, October 10 for a 2:00 p.m. match at Belmont Abbey.
