Jarmusch's Shutout Highlights Split Against Catawba

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Game One, Game Two

MISENHEIMER, NC- The Pfeiffer softball team (6-5) split a double header with Catawba(3-1) on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcon offence struggled in game one only picking up four hits and not scoring any runs in the 4-0 loss. In game two Sam Jarmusch pitched her first shutout of the season in a 3-0 Pfeiffer victory.

In game one, Pfeiffer had trouble stringing hits together and getting the offense going. Catawba pitcher Carley Tysinger threw a complete game four hit shutout and struck out 10 Falcon batters. Kristin Durant pitched four consecutive scoreless innings to start the game. However in the top of the fifth an Indian double by Natalie Naturile ignited the inning. Catawba would score three runs off five hits and secure a game one victory.

In game two, pitchers Jarmusch and Caroline Turner were locked in a pitchers duo. The score was tied headed into the fifth with each team only recording two hits. In the top of the inning Pfeiffer center fielder Chandler Walker made a spectacular diving catch that took away extra bases .Walker followed up her great defensive play with her first home run of the year, a two run blast to left center field giving Pfeiffer a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Jaclyn Boever added an insurance run hitting her second home run of the year in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Falcons went on to win 3-0.

Jarmusch struck out seven batters and only allowed five hits. The biggest threat for Catawba came in the top of the seventh with runners on first and second and two outs. Jarmusch got Natuile to bounce into a fielder's choice to secure the victory.

Boever and Walker both were 2-for-2 in game two and combined for four of Pfeiffer's six hits. Both Rachel Crowder and Khristin Isley added singles for the Falcons.

Pfeiffer stays at home on Friday, February 13 for a double header with Winston-Salem St. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
