BELMONT, N.C.â€" The No. 13 Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team continued its current hot streak on Saturday afternoon, winning in the final seconds on the road against Carolina Conference rival Belmont-Abbey, 7-6.
The win extends the Falcons winning streak to four games, improving their record to 8-2, 3-0 CC, tying them for first place with Mount Olive.
Falcons midfielder Matt Michaeli picked up 2 goals in the contest, including the game winning shot with four seconds left in the game. Ben Austin scored a team high three points (2 goals, 1 assist). Eddie Renaud, Cole Paciejewski and Tucker Hammock also recorded goals during the win.
Joe Capstaff and Michael Moorehead played in net for Pfeiffer, with Moorehead recording six saves to pick up the win.
The Crusaders Riley Quinlan finished with a hat trick and added two assists. Callum Tanner and Conner Sellers scored two and one goals, respectively.
Quinlan and Tanner picked up early goals for Belmont Abbey to lead the game at halftime, 2-0. The Falcons would mount a comeback in the second half. With unassisted goals in the first minutes of the third quarter from Hammock, Austin, and Michaeli, the Falcons took a 3-2 lead.
Austin and Sellars would each score for their respective teams before the end of the third.
Renaud would pick up a score for the Falcons midway through fourth quarter, extending the Falcons lead by two. Following an exchange of goals from Quinlan and Paciejewski, the Crusaders, with scores from Tanner and Quinlan, would tie the game with 30 seconds left in the game. A late Belmont Abbey turnover would set up Michaeli's game winning shot.
The Falcons led the Crusaders in shots on goal (39-24) and ground balls (25-20).
The Falcons will be on the road Wednesday to face CC opponent Mount Olive. Game starts at 4:00 p.m.
