Due West, SC- The Pfeiffer softball team (22-21, 9-9 CC) struggled offensively getting swept by Erskine (18-20, 10-6 CC) on Saturday afternoon. In the first game, the Falcons gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in a 4-3 loss. In game two, the Flying Fleet scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, winning 7-1.
The Falcons struck first in game one when
Julie Bullington singled home
Jessica Jackson giving Pfeiffer a 1-0 first inning lead. With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning
Lindsey Russell hit a one out go-ahead RBI double to left center, scoring
Chandler Walker who singled earlier in the inning. Bullington recorded her second RBI of the game with a ground out that scored
Sadie Saine from third base. The Flying Fleet scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off victory.
Saine and Jackson each recorded two hits in game one. Erskine recorded three game one home runs.
In the second game, Pfeiffer only recorded three hits and were held to one run. Erskine scored seven runs on 13 hits. In the top of the sixth inning Jackson (4) hit a solo home run scoring the lone run for the Falcons.
Erskine starting pitcher Candace Fitch pitched a complete game striking out eight batters and only giving up three hits in seven innings of work.
Pfeiffer travels to Banner Elk on Tuesday for a double header against Lees-McRae. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
