MISENHEIMER, NC- The Pfeiffer women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Tri-match. The Falcons began the day with a 3-0 loss to conference rival Belmont Abbey and then lost the nightcap 3-0 to Columbus State.
Belmont Abbey:
After dropping the first set 25-16, Pfeiffer took an 11-7 lead to start the second game during that stretch Kayla Hyatt recorded a kill followed by a service ace. The Crusaders rattled off 18 of the last 24 points to run away with the second set. The Falcons could not rebound in the third set falling to Belmont Abbey 25-16.
Hannah Schellenberg paced the Crusaders with a match-high 17 kills and posted a .364 hitting percentage. Gabby Martinez recorded 27 assists, five digs and Aimee Cloninger posted a match-high 13 digs for Belmont Abbey.
Hyatt led the way for the Falcons with seven kills, nine digs and one solo block. Katie Wilson contributed with 12 assists and two services aces for the Falcons.
Columbus State:
In the second match the Falcons dropped a one sided affair to Columbus State. The Cougars won by scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-6 to cap off the Falcon Tri-match.
Erin Errington recoded a team-high five kills and dished out three assists and one dig for the Falcons. Shenelle Charlot and Laura Ann Fortner contributed three kills apiece for Pfeiffer.
The Cougars were led by 11 kills by Megan Frame as the team finished with a .386 hitting percentage on the afternoon. Cori Ehmen dished out a match-high 28 assists, hit .500 and recorded 6 kills for Columbus State.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Saturday afternoon for a 12:00 p.m. matchup against Conference Carolina foe Barton.
