Box Score 2 SALISBURY, N.C.- The Pfeiffer Falcons (11-8 ) softball team took a pair of games on Tuesday versus Catawba (13-3) as the Falcons relief pitching was the key to victory in both games. In game one, Sydney Poole came in relief to pick up the 3-2 win and in game two Callie Kuykendall pitched five innings of relief to pick up the 6-3 win.
In game one, The Falcons needed three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. Catcher Rachel Crowder started off the rally with a walk. Next batter Kiana Millsaps doubled down the left field line and the third batter of the inning Jessica Jackson singled in Crowder. Millsaps scored and Jackson moved up wild pitch from Catawba pitcher Carley Tysinger. Two batters later Bailey Sherrill sacrificed in Jackson from third base to give Pfeiffer the 3-2 win.
Poole pitched three innings of scoreless relief for her second win of the season and Kuykendall came in to pitch the last two innings for her second save of the season.
In game two, the Falcons defeated the Indians, 6-3 as starter Sam Jarmusch was knocked out after two innings as Callie Kuykendall came in for the final five innings of relief for her first win of the season.
In the top of the fifth, the Falcons got on the scoreboard as Vada Blue Sherrill walked, stole second and went to third on a Crowder single. Millsaps grounded out to shortstop to score Sherrill for the RBI. Next batter Jessica Jackson doubled to left field to score Crowder.
In the top of the sixth Chandler Walker doubled in pinch runner Anna Lauren Brafford.
Millsaps finshed the day off with a homerun to give Pfeiffer the 6-2 lead in the top of the seventh as they went on to beat the Indians, 6-3. The freshman in two games had a single,double, and homerun with 3 RBI.
Kuykendall pitched seven innings of relief on the day, allowing six hits and just two runs as she picked up a win and a save.
The Falcons return to play on Thursday as they travel to Mount Olive to face the Trojans in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
