HICKORY, N.C. – The Pfeiffer Falcons (13-11) dropped both games part of their doubleheader with the 19th ranked Lenoir-Rhyne Bears (17-3). Vada Blue Sherrill hits two homeruns and adds five RBI on the day.
In game one, the Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the third inning as Kiana Millsaps hit a three run homerun to right field, bringing Vada Sherrill and Chandler Walker.
Lenoir-Rhyne answered with seven runs in the bottom of the third as Mackenzie Cates hit a three- run homerun off of Pfeiffer starter Kennedy Lester. Later in the inning, Madison Poe hit a two RBI single to left field and Erin Boone and Sydney Landreth added back-to-back RBI singles.
In the top of the fourth inning, Vada Sherrill made it a 7-6 game as she hit her fourth homerun of the season as Walker and her sister Bailey Sherrill scored.
In the bottom of the fifth, Boone tripled in two more Bear runs.
Brandi Hole came in to pitch the final three innings to shut the door on Pfeiffer and save the 9-6 win.
In game two, the Bears jumped on the Falcons in the bottom of the second as Cates doubled and then Madison Carter's sacrifice bunt was misplayed as Pfeiffer third baseman three the ball away down the first base line scoring Cates. Two batters later Dakota Keller tripled to center field to bring in two more runs. Boone came to the plate and hit a homerun to right field. After a Landreth double, Jordin Phillips doubled in Landreth from second base and adding onto the lead.
In the top of the third, Vada Sherrill hit a two-run homerun to center for the 7-2 score after three innings.
In the top of fifth innings with bases loaded, Anna Lauren Brafford scored on a Brandi Parks wild pitch cutting the deficit to 7-3.
Boone hit another homerun in the bottom of the sixth to finish off the game by the score of 8-3.
The Falcons return to action on Friday as they play host to the Barton Bulldogs. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
