Box Score BURLINGTON, N.C. - The second-seeded Pfeiffer Falcons defeated seventh-seeded King Tornado in game four of the Conference Carolinas Tournament by the score of 6-0 as it was highlighted by a six run third inning in part of a 3-run triple by designated player Kiana Millsaps.
In third inning, second baseman Emma Tuttle led-off for Pfeiffer with a double to left center field. After, Vada Blue Sherrill reached on a fielding error by King right fielder Aayliyah Sands, King pitcher Haley Smothers loaded as she hit Falcon center fielder Chandler Walker. Two batters later, Millsaps tripled, bringing in all three Falcon base runners.
Jessica Jackson stepped to the plate with two outs and Millsaps on third, as she singled up the middle to score the Falcon fourth run of the game. Bailey Sherrill and Stephanie Fortner walked and then the innings lead-off hitter Emma Tuttle came to bat for the second time in the inning and singled up the middle scoring Jackson and Bailey Sherrill for the 6-0 Pfeiffer lead.
Pfeiffer's pitching combination of Sam Jarmusch, Callie Kuykendall and Sydney Poole shut down the Tornado offense as they allowed one hit over seven innings. Starter Sam Jarmusch picked up the win as she pitched three innings and struck out five Tornado batters.
In game two, weather was a factor as a lightning delay stopped play in the bottom of the third as Pfeiffer and Belmont Abbey were tied at 1. As the weather worsened throughout the day, the game was suspended and will pick up tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with the Falcons batting in the bottom of the third.
