MISENHEIMER, NC- Zach Huneycutt picked up his second win of the season, as the Pfeiffer baseball team (14-24) split with St. Andrews (21-16) on Tuesday night. The Falcons won game one 11-2, Huneycutt pitched six innings giving up one earned run and striking out five batters. The Falcons only managed five hits in game two falling the Knights 5-2.
Pfeiffer struck first scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Derek Perry opened up the inning lacing a double down the left field line. Perry later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Eckard. Later in the inning Dylan Goodman hit a two RBI base knock to left field scoring both Cody McKenzie and Tanner Mathis.
The Falcons scored two more in the bottom of the second, Anthony Allende singled up the middle to score Damon Smith who singled to left earlier in the frame. Eckard drove in his second run of the contest hitting an RBI single to right field scoring Allende from second base.
Pfeiffer added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, to extend their lead to 11-2. Austin Fox started the inning with a leadoff single and later scored on a base knock to right field, by Perry. Two batters later Allende singled up the middle scoring Perry from second base.
Perry scored three runs, recorded two hits and one RBI in the first game. Allende, Eckard and Goodman each posted two RBI's in the victory.
Pfeiffer stuck first in the night cap. Perry walked and later scored on an Allende RBI single through the left side to give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage. St. Andrews answered back scoring two run in the top of the second inning, off a 2-run blast by Hunter Hackney to left center field.
The Knights pushed across two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Pfeiffer cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Perry connected on his second double of the day later scoring on a sacrifice fly by Mathis. Perry finished the game going 2-for-2, scoring two runs, and drawing two walks.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Friday, opening up a three-game series with Southern Wesleyan. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
