MISENHEIMER, N.C. - On senior day, behind strong pitching, the Pfeiffer Falcons (26-14, 12-4) took a pair of games from the Lees-McRae Bobcats (7-29, 3-11 CC), 5-0 and 4-1. Both Falcon starting pitchers, Sydney Poole and senior Sam Jarmusch on the day pitched seven innings and gave up no runs.
In game one, Pfeiffer scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth as Anna Lauren Brafford led off the inning with a double to right center. Next batter Bailey Sherrill doubled home Brafford for the first run of the game. Next batter , senior Jessica Jackson doubled down the right field line as Sherrill advanced to third. After a Jackson steal of second base, Vada Blue Sherrill singled to center bringing home Bailey Sherrill and Jackson.
In the bottom of the fifth, Brafford contributed to another Falcon rally as she doubled down the left field line bringing in Chandler Walker from first base. Two batters later, Jackson singled to center to score the right fielder Brafford.
Poole retired the final six batters as and earned her sixth victory of the season.
In game two, the Falcons started right where they left off in game one. Vada Sherrill led off the bottom of the first as she reached on a fielding error by Lees-McRae shortstop Sarah Beth Ashley. Sherrill stole second and then advanced to third on a wild pitch and then Walker hit a sacrifice fly to left that allowed Sherrill to score for a 1-0 Falcon lead and to tie the single season record in Falcon school history with her 44th run of the year.
The bottom of the third saw Rachel Crowder hit a line drive home run over the left field fence for her eighth on the season.
In the bottom of the fourth with Vanessa Hoffman pinch running and Stephanie Fortner on, Emma Tuttle reached on a fielder's choice scoring Fortner from third base. Next batter, Vada Sherrill grounded out bringing in Hoffman for Pfeiffer's 4-0 lead.
Sarah Tucker doubled to lead off the top of the seventh off reliever Callie Kuykendall and then the Bobcats scored their only run of the game on a fielder error by Falcon shortstop Vada Sherrill. After another Lees-McRae hit, Coach Monte Sherrill replaced his reliever with starter Jarmusch. Jarmusch got the final three outs to preserve the 4-1 lead.
Jarmusch picked up her seventh win as she allowed just one hit while striking out six Bobcats.
Pfeiffer returns to play on Tuesday as they travel to Winston-Salem St for a non-conference doubleheader that starts at 4:00 p.m.
