Bickford and Scott Lead Pfeiffer to Comeback Victory over Columbia

Box Score

Jeremy Zalacca - Director of Athletic Communications

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Sydni Bickford and Dajea Scott combined for 13 points in the fourth quarter as Pfeiffer (4-1) erased a 77-70 deficit with 5:40 to play and came away with an 87-83 victory inside Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon over Columbia College (2-11). Bickford scored all seven of her fourth-quarter points in the final 2:59, which started with a go-ahead jumper to put Pfeiffer ahead 80-79.

Bickford, a junior from Concord, would drop 22 points on the Koalas and shoot 8-for-19 from the field. The point total marks a season-high for Pfeiffer's leading scorer, who added a career-high eight steals on the night.

Center Grayson Harris continued her outstanding junior campaign with her second double-double of the year. Harris recorded 10 points and a career-high 13 boards. In five games this year, Harris is averaging 10 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

Dajea Scott also had a great night, finishing with 14 points, six rebounds, and seven assists, while going 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Freshmen A'Mya McClain and Shalonda Wilkins added 13 points and 10 points respectively.

Pfeiffer trailed 25-18 after one-quarter of play but erased that with a 33-point second quarter to go into the break with a 51-47 advantage.

The Falcons extended the lead to 11 with 6:16 left in the third quarter which was their largest lead of the game. However, the Koalas would finish the frame on an extended 16-6 run to cut the Pfeiffer lead to 68-67 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Trailing 70-69, Columbia went on an 8-0 run to reclaim a seven-point advantage before Bickford took over late. Harris, Scott, and McClain knocked down shots to cut the lead to one before Columbia responded with a bucket to make the score 79-76. After a Pfeiffer basket and defensive stop, Bickford's floater in the lane gave Pfeiffer the lead for good. On the next possession, Scott found a wide open Bickford who nailed a triple to put Pfeiffer up 83-79.

Columbia scored with 1:49 to play but Bickford responded with another basket to push the lead back to four. Imani Parr cut the deficit to two with a layup with 46 seconds but Scott would end the comeback attempt when her acrobatic left-handed layup went in with 24 seconds left on the clock and the shot clock about to expire.

Pfeiffer shot 40.3 percent from the field on the night and went 7-for-15 (46.7 percent) from long range.

The game was just Pfeiffer's second home game of the season and their first since Nov. 17. However, it does begin a stretch where the Falcons play six of seven games in Misenheimer.

The Falcons return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Mary Baldwin at 4 p.m.
