Jeremy Zalacca - Director of Athletic Communications

SALISBURY, N.C. - A late Pfeiffer (0-3) rally fell short as the Falcons dropped a 13-11 non-conference matchup at Catawba (2-2) on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons trailed 11-6 heading into the third period but cut the deficit to 12-11 with 4:29 to play before falling short.

Kyle Barna scored a career-high five goals on the day and Jared Nelson handed out four assists for the Falcons. Cody Lamond scored twice and went 19-for-26 in faceoffs, while tallying a game-high 11 ground balls.

Pfeiffer held a 38-33 advantage in shots on the day and a 34-26 lead in ground balls. Pfeiffer converted on 2-of-6 man up chances, while Catawba was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

Catawba scored the first three goals of the game and six of the first eight to jump out to a 6-2 lead. Lamond would score off a Nelson assist with just 56 seconds left in the opening half, cutting the Indian lead to 6-2 heading into the break.

After the Indians scored the first two to start the third period, Barna tallied a man up goal to make the score 8-4. Catawba would convert three straight goals and took a commanding 11-4 lead before Pfeiffer closed the gap with back-to-back goals from Justin Oberg and Barna to close out period number three.

In the final quarter, Barna scored twice and Lamond netted another to cut Catawba's advantage to 11-9. Liam Lynch gave the Indians some breathingroom with 7:59 to play but Barna and Nelson answered to trim the lead to 11-10 with 4:29 to play.

Just when it seemed like Pfeiffer would draw even, Dalton Cook scored for Catawba with the Indians playing a man down due to penalty for the game's final goal at the 3:27 mark of the fourth quarter.

Mike Moorehead made eight saves on the afternoon but dropped to 0-3 on the year. Ryan Applegate made 16 stops for Catawba to improve to 2-2.

The Falcons don't have long to rest as they return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Brevard for another non-conference contest. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
