Falcons Come Up Short In Late Inning Comeback Bid at Saint Andrews

LAURINBURG, SC – The Pfeiffer Falcons (6-8) went on the road and fell to the Saint Andrews Knights (12-8) on Tuesday afternoon by the score of 9-8. Three Falcons; John Elwood, Derek Perry and Brandall Peters all had two hits apiece.

In the bottom of the second, the Knights knocked in two runs but Pfeiffer answered with two of their own in the next half inning as Cody McKenzie singled to right to bring in Xavier Rodriguez and Peters.

Again in the top of bottom of the third, the Knights scored two more times. The Falcons again answered with two more in the top of the fourth as Christian Marciano hit sacrifice fly to right field that scored Tanner Mathis. Rodriguez added another run as hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Gauge Gantt.

The Falcons took the lead in the top of the seventh as they added three runs as Peters led off the inning with a triple. McKenzie knocked him as he flied out to right.  After Elwood reached on an infield single, Perry singled to center to score Elwood. Mathis singled to center to score Perry to make 7-6, Falcons.

As Pfeiffer took the lead in the top of the inning, two errors cost them three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Pfeiffer again answered Saint Andrews with one last run in the top of the eighth.  Peters reached base with a walk and was able to come around to score later in the inning as Elwood and Perry hit back-to-back singles to shortstop to bring home the senior outfielder.

Pfeiffer was unable to tie the score in the top of the ninth as Xavier Rodriguez took the loss in a relief appearance as he gave up three runs but none earned in his one inning of work.

The Falcons return home this Friday as they take on Conference Carolinas foe, Limestone on Friday and Saturday.  Friday's first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
