MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer Falcons women's volleyball team kicked off their 2017 campaign with a pair of three set losses to Division II Virginia Union and West Virginia State. Sophomore Bri Weber led all Pfeiffer players with kills on the day as she totaled 11.
The Falcons in their first match of the day against Virginia Union, got off to a quick start as they led by a score of 6-5 after kills by Kaylee Freed, Katie Anne Wilson and Sam Smith. The Panthers took control of the set after the early Falcon rally as they hit .333 and held the Falcons to .032.
As a team the Panthers hit .295 in the match and Ambryanna Moore led all players with 12 kills, hitting a .688. Teammate Jamaica Adams led the match with 12 digs.
Falcons setter, Wilson led her team in game one with 10 assists and libero Gabby June dug 10 balls.
The Falcons second match of the day saw Pfeiffer drop to West Virginia State in three stanzas.
Bri Weber in set one led her team with three kills as she hit a blistering .429. In set two, Weber hit more efficiently than set one when she tallied three more kills at a .750 mark.
West Virginia State out matched the young Falcons with experience. The Jackets hit .375 for the match and totaled 36 kills to the Falcons 16.
The Falcons return to action Sunday afternoon as they host Brevard College inside Merner Gymnasium at 3 p.m. to finish of the Falcon Classic.
