RALEIGH, N.C. – On Saturday afternoon in game two of the tri-match versus the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels (0-14), the Pfeiffer Falcons (1-8) snapped the program's 54 match losing streak by the score of 3-1. The seniors led the way in match two as Erin Errington had a match-high 13 kills and Katie Anne Wilson had a match-high 15 assists.
In set one, as Mary Baldwin had a 7-6 lead until freshman Lea Hilton was able to help Pfeiffer jump out to a 14-8 lead with her three kills and two aces.
Later in the set, Pfeiffer found themselves up 19-12, the Fighting Squirrels reeled off eight consecutive points to go up 20-19. Wilson and Errington hooked up to stop that run. Again Mary Baldwin was able to score two more consecutive points. The Falcons were able to take set one with the help of two other freshmen, Kaylee Freed and Madison Kuehl. Hilton added another Falcon ace to get the set to game point and then Freed ended set with a kill.
The set one win was the first set win for Pfeiffer since November 5, 2016, against the Limestone Saints.
Set two, the Falcons in one stretch won 15 of 16 points. Notably, Pfeiffer won seven consecutive points as Falcon hitters had four consecutive kills that included two from Errington and one each from Kuehl and Bri Weber. In the other six-point stretch, Wilson added two service aces. Pfeiffer was able to go on to win 25-18.
After the Squirrels won by the score of 25-22 in set three, the Falcons pulled out the victory in set four as they came from behind at 8-6. Wilson served four straight points with the help of her one ace and Errington's kill. Pfeiffer never looked back as they went on to win 25-15. Hilton and Kuehl finished off the game with an emphatic double block.
Emma Gray Beacham also pitched in with 14 assists and Lili Jaramillo had a match-high 13 digs.
Earlier in the day, the Falcons came short as they fell to the Greensboro College Pride, 3-0. Errington led the Falcon team with eight kills.
Pfeiffer returns to play on Wednesday at home as they host Methodist University at 7.p.m.
