Pfeiffer Bats Stay Hot to Finish Off 3-1 Weekend

Laurinburg, N.C. – The Pfeiffer baseball team (3-3) earned a 6-5 win against Cumberland and an 8-3 victory against St. Andrews on Saturday to complete a 3-1 weekend on the campus of St. Andrews University.

 Game 1: Pfeiffer vs Cumberland

Senior outfielder Jordan Eckard had a big performance at the plate. Eckard went 3-4 with 2 homeruns while driving in 3. Eckard's 2 homers gives him back-to-back games with 2 homeruns. Kirby Lambert collected 2 hits on the afternoon while collecting 1 RBI. Xavier Rodriguez got on base 3 times and scored 3 runs, while also walking twice.

Matthew Lambert gave Pfeiffer a solid start, going 4.2 innings, giving up 6 hits and 4 runs while striking out 5. Cameron Reid and Peyton Williams came out of the bullpen for the Falcons and kept the Patriots' bats silent by combining for 2.1 innings while giving up just 1 run.

Although Cumberland out-hit Pfeiffer 10-7, clutch hitting prevailed for the Falcons to pull out the win late. Down by 1 in the bottom of the 6th, Jordan Eckard came up to the plate with Xavier Rodriguez on base. The hot-hitting Eckard took one out to center field to give Pfeiffer a 6-5 lead that they would not relinquish. Peyton Williams shut the door in the 7th to seal the victory for the Falcons.

 

Game 2: Pfeiffer vs St. Andrews

The bats stayed hot in game number two as they scored 8 runs to defeat St. Andrews 8-3. For the day, the Falcons scored 14 runs, and a total of 38 runs in their four games on the weekend. Brian Kowalski had a big game at the plate, going 3-4 with a homerun and 2 RBI. Kowalski's solo shot came in the top of the 6th inning to give Pfeiffer a 5-3 advantage.

Xavier Rodriguez had a big day going 2-3 with a walk and scored 2 runs. Senior Derek Perry also came through with 2 hits while scoring 2 runs. First baseman Kirby Lambert drove in 2 runs on the game while going 1-3.

The Falcons held a 4-3 advantage going in to the top of the 6th when the bats came alive. Pfeiffer scored 1 in the 6th off Kowalski's first homer of the season, and then scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th to stretch the lead to 5. The win extends the Falcon win streak to 3 and caps off a solid weekend by going 3-1.

Pfeiffer takes the field again on Tuesday when they travel to Greensboro at 4 p.m.
