Softball Improves to 18-2 with Sweep of William Peace

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer softball team (18-2) breezed to a pair of wins over William Peace (11-9) on Saturday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field. The Falcons won game one 8-0 in six innings and took an 8-1 decision in game two.

In the opener, Kiana Millsaps improved to 12-2 in the circle by tossing six shutout innings and only allowing five hits and one walk. The junior struck out three on the afternoon.

Makenzie Pennell started the scoring in the bottom of the first with a double to right field that scored Millsaps. In the bottom of the second, Kari Westerbeek drew a bases-loaded walk to put Pfeiffer up 2-0.

After a sac fly from Chandler Walker put Pfeiffer up 3-0, Stephanie Fortner crushed her third HR in her last three games to put the Falcons up by five. Fortner hit a rocket to left field that plated Amanda Sports.

After Millsaps kept the Pacers off the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, Vada Blue Sherrill stepped to the plate with two on and none out and smacked her 10th home run of the season to invoke the mercy rule and give Pfeiffer win number 17 on the year.

William Peace struck first in game two, pushing across a run in the top of the first. However, the Falcons would answer with a four-spot in the bottom of the frame.

Walker drove in Sherrill with a groundout and Sports hit a 3-run bomb to left field for her third homer of the season.

In the bottom of the fourth, Walker singled to left to score Bailey Sherrill for the Falcons fifth run of the game. The next inning, Sports doubled in a run and Bailey Sherrill added an RBI single put Pfeiffer out front, 7-1.

A solo laser from Pennell in the bottom of the sixth ended the scoring for Pfeiffer and sealed the victory.

Kennedy Lester improved to 6-0 by allowing one run over six innings. The sophomore didn't walk a batter and gave up just six hits. Westerbeek tossed the final scoreless inning.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday when they host Meredith at 1 p.m.
