Pfeiffer Volleyball Drops a Pair at Meredith College Tri-Match

Raleigh, N.C. (Oct. 19 2019) –  The Pfeiffer University volleyball team dropped a pair of USA South matches on Saturday afternoon at Weatherspoon Gymnasium, Falling to host Meredith College, 3-0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-22) and to Greensboro by a 3-1 (14-25, 28-26, 22-25, 16-25) score.

In the first match against Meredith, the Angels controlled the first set, jumping out to a quick 5-1 advantage. A 12-2 run in the middle of the first frame gave the Avenging Angels (14-7, 8-2 USA South) a commanding 19-5 lead.

In the second set, Meredith would eventually build up to a 14-9, but the Falcons would storm back with a 5-0 run to tie the score at 14. The run included three kills Pfeiffer sophomore Alonna Clouse (Harrisburg, N.C.). But the Avenging Angels (14-7, 8-2 USA South) would not trail the rest of the set as they took the second set, 25-22.

The third set saw Meredith jump out to a fast 6-0 lead, but the Falcons (12-9, 3-6 USA South) rallied back with seven straight points to take the lead. Neither squad led by more the three points the rest of the way with the Avenging Angels taking the lead for good, 20-19, after sophomore Kenzie Moore hammered home an assist from senior Lauren Grodi. 

Clouse led the way with 11 kills while Bri Weber (Jesup, Iowa) had 10. Reagan Wyatt (Stoneville, N.C.) supplied three block assists and one solo block while Emma Gray Beacham (Laurinburg, N.C.) had a team-high 25 assists and 13 digs.


In the second match, after dropping the first set to Greensboro, Pfeiffer roared back to tie the match at 1-1 with a 28-26 win.  Greensboro would then take set three by a 25-22 score and took the match with a 25-16 win in set four.

Clouse led the Falcons with 16 kills while Wyatt had 14 kills, two solo blocks and a block assist.  Freshman Mattie Burris (Misenheimer, N.C.) had 10 kills for Pfeiffer.

Kaitlyn Kilts (Madison, N.C.) had 21 digs on the afternoon while a trio of players in Clouse, Delaney Geygan (Waxhaw, N.C.), and Lili Jaramillo (Oakboro, N.C.) each posting 11 on the match while Beacham supplied 45 assists against the Pride.

Pfeiffer now stands at 12-9 overall and 3-6 in USA South play.Vo
