Box Score Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Falls at Brevard in Season Finale
Brevard, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team closed the 2019-20 season with a narrow 56-52 road loss at Brevard College on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons were able to control the action for most of the first quarter and led BC 23-15 after the opening period.
The Tornados, however, were firing on all cylinders to start the second quarter, rattling off an 11-2 run to take the 26-25 lead with 5:30 to play until halftime. A made three-pointer by Brevard's Shakirah Thompson started the run which continued with a jumper by Taryn Ledford following an offensive rebound by Breana Ware. An Avery Lockwood jumper off a Thompson assist helped Brevard, which concluded with buckets by Washington and Williams.
In total, the Tornados outscored the Falcons 21-7 in the second period to take the 36-30 lead into halftime. BC made three from long range and recorded assists on six-of-nine made field goals in the period to enable the offensive output.
Pfeiffer however mounted a comeback in the third quarter as the Falcons outscored BC 13-6 in the period to take a one-point lead into the fourth.
Led by Washington's 10 points in the final quarter, the Tornados produced a 14-9 advantage in the decisive fourth period while Pfeiffer struggled from beyond the arc, going 0-for-6 from the three-point line.
Brevard, on the other hand, was able to take a 54-50 lead on a Washington three-pointer with 2:57 remaining followed by a made jumper by Deja Riddick to put the Tornados up by six points.
Pfeiffer would score at the 1:58 mark to cut the deficit to four points. However, the Falcons would be held scoreless the remainder of the game, missing their last six field-goal attempts.
Falcon senior Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.) closed her career by scoring a team-high 16 points. She also supplied a pair of assists and four rebounds in her final collegiate game.
Junior teammate Shalonda Wilkins (Chesterfield, Va.) scored 13 points while hitting three from distance while junior Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.) had 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
With the loss, Pfeiffer finishes the season at 8-8 in USA South play and 11-14 overall.
