Pfeiffer Women's Tennis Falls To Mars Hill, Beats Brevard
Brevard, N.C. (Oct. 11, 2021) – The Pfeiffer University women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Sunday, Oct. 10, falling to Mars Hill and beating Brevard at the McKoy Tennis Complex on the Brevard College campus.
THE BASICS – Pfeiffer vs. Mars Hill
The Falcons fell to Division II Mars Hill in the first match of the day by an 8-1 score. The lone Pfeiffer point came at No. 2 doubles, when
Alison Sloop (Rockwell, N.C.) and
Elithe Hudson (Albemarle, N.C.) won their match over MHU's Maria Razzetta and Hannah Frazier by an 8-6 score.
MHU would go on to win all six singles matches, taking the 8-1 win.
THE BASICS – Pfeiffer vs. Brevard
Pfeiffer swept all three doubles matches then took wins at Nos. 1, 4 and 6 singles to down the host Tornados by a 6-3 final.
Freshman
Megan Rekieta (Lubbock, Texas) won her No. 1 match 6-3, 6-4 over Brevard's Hannah Hersh followed by
Elithe Hudson's win at No. 4 over Brooke Garland by a 6-3, 6-3 score. Freshman
Josie Luther (Richfield, N.C.) captured her No. 6 match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Melody Ferguson to wrap up singles play.
Next Up
Pfeiffer completes the fall season with a 1-1 record and will turn their attention to preparing for spring competition. The Falcons will open the spring 2022 season on Feb. 19-20 with a pair of home matches against ODAC foes. Hollins University will visit Pfeiffer on Feb. 19 while Randolph will square off with the Falcons on Sunday, Feb. 20. Both matches are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. starts.
