Box Score Hot Shooting Lifts Pfeiffer to Big Men's Basketball Win Over N.C. Wesleyan
Misenheimer, N.C. (Feb. 12, 2021) – There's an old basketball adage that if your team shoots a higher percentage than the temperature, then odds are you will come out on top. That was exactly the case on Friday afternoon, as the Pfeiffer men's basketball team took a convincing 94-71 win over N.C. Wesleyan in USA South play at Merner Gym
The Bishops, who entered the game with a perfect 5-0 league record, jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead over the first few minutes of action and would keep the 7-point cushion to lead 16-9 at the 14-minute mark. However, Pfeiffer began to chip away going on a 32-12 run to take a 41-28 lead with 5 and half minutes to play in the first half. During the 32-point spurt, freshman Elan Muniz (King, N.C.) caught fire, going 3-of-3 from long range. Senior Jamaal David (Clinton, Md.) also nailed two from distance during that span.
Pfeiffer would lead 50-36 at the half, but the Bishops closed to within six points (71-65) at the 7:41 mark after a three-pointer from Braydon Dixon, but the Falcons responded with an 11-0 run that made it 82-65, capped by a breakaway dunk from David at 5:44.
N.C. Wesleyan would never get closer than 13 points the rest of the way, with Pfeiffer taking the 94-71 win.
Pfeiffer had four players score in double-digits, with freshman Dorian Miles (Greenville, S.C.) leading the way with 20 points and a team-best 11 rebounds in notching the first double-double of his career.
David had 14 points while hitting five three-pointers on the afternoon while Donnie Haith (Aberdeen, N.C.) and Tyjarek Simmons (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) each had 10 points in the win.
Damon McDowell scored a game-high 22 points for the Bishops in the loss.
As a team, Pfeiffer shot a sizzling 53.1% from the field and 44% from long range while N.C. Wesleyan managed a 45.5% outing and 30.8% from distance.
The Falcons and Bishops will lace them up again this upcoming Sunday in Rocky Mount, N.C. Tipoff for the Valentine's Day matchup is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
