Pfeiffer Men's Basketball Shoots Past Southern Virginia
Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 22, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team hit a combined 10-three pointers en route to a USA South win over visiting Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon at Merner Gym.
The Falcons, playing in their first game since Jan. 5 and their first home game since Nov. 14, shot a blistering 43.5% Â (10-of-23) from beyond the arc while holding the Knights to just a 29.6% (8-of-27) effort from long range.
Pfeiffer fell behind 7-0 in the early goings, but rallied to take the 27-19 lead at 6:45 after a free throw from
Donnie Haith (Aberdeen, N.C.). A
Taylan Rowe (Oakboro, N.C.) three-pointer put Pfeiffer up 39-30 at 1:37, but SVU responded with a three of their own at 1:15 to provide the eventual 39-33 halftime score.
In the second half, Pfeiffer built the lead to 72-53 after
Jordan Byrd (Mebane, N.C.) canned a three-pointer on an assist from
Nick Ruggiero (Harrisburg, N.C.).
SVU would get no closer than nine points the rest of the way, with Pfeiffer taking the 85-76 win to sweep the season series.
Pfeiffer's Rowe tied his career high by hitting six three-pointers on the afternoon and finishing with a team-best 19 points. Byrd finished with 13 points,
Sean Scott (Waldorf, Md.) had 12 while
D.J. Bradsher (Burlington, N.C.),
Dorian Miles (Greenville, S.C.) and
E.J. Thomas (Charlotte, N.C) each had 10.
Bradsher led Pfeiffer on the glass by controlling eight rebounds in the win.
SVU's Conner Marchant led the Knights with 23 points in the loss.
Pfeiffer improves to 2-0 in USA South play and 5-4 overall while SVU dips to 1-3 in league play and 7-8 overall.
The Falcons will have a quick turnaround, as they host N.C. Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 23 with a 2:00 p.m. tip at Merner Gym.
