Big Second Half Lifts N.C. Wesleyan Over Pfeiffer Men, 103-88

Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 22, 2022) – Visiting N.C. Wesleyan used a big second half scoring outburst to claim a 103-88 win over the Pfeiffer University men's basketball team 103-88 on Sunday afternoon at Merner Gym.

The Bishops held a slight 42-40 lead at halftime, but came out firing in the second half, jumping to a 53-45 lead following a three-pointer from Damon McDowell at the 16:40 mark.

Pfeiffer would trim the lead to 55-51 when Taylan Rowe (Oakboro, N.C.) canned a three pointer of his own at 15:38.

N.C. Wesleyan then put together a 6-1 spurt to grab the 61-52 lead forcing a Falcon timeout.

Another three-pointer from Rowe cut the NCWC lead to 61-55, but the Bishops then used another 7-1 spurt to lead 68-56.

Pfeiffer would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way, with NCWC eventually building a lead of as many as 19 points (96-77) after a Khalid Chavis-Hinds basket at 2:28.

Jerome Savoy (Waldorf, Md.) scored the last basket of the game to provide the eventual 103-88 final, sending Pfeiffer to its first USA South defeat of the season.

Individually, Rowe led all Pfeiffer scorers with 19 points by hitting three from distance and going a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.  Savoy would finish with 18 points while fellow senior
Sean Scott (Waldorf, Md.) managed 15 points.  Donnie Haith (Aberdeen, N.C.) scored 10 points to round out the double-figure scorers for Pfeiffer.

N.C. Wesleyan's Damon McDowell poured in 33 points on the afternoon, going 13-of-22 from the field while hitting four from long range.  McDowell also was 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Sal-Bey Young and Isaiah Lewis had 14 and 13 points, respectively while Chavis-Hinds finished with 11 points.

Pfeiffer falls to 5-5 on the season and 2-1 in USA South play while N.C. Wesleyan now stands at 12-4 overall and 4-1 in league play.

The Falcons will take to the road on Tuesday, Jan. 25 with a league game at Averett University at 7:00 p.m.
