Pfeiffer Men Drop Contest to Mary Washington 81-66
Misenheimer, N.C. (January 31, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team fell to the University of Mary Washington 81-66, Monday night in a non-conference tilt in Merner Gymnasium.
Sophomore
Dorian Miles led the way for the Falcons (6-7, 3-2 USA South) notching his second straight double-double and third for the season. Miles poured in 18 points and added 11 rebounds on the night. Joining Miles in double figures were Jerome Savory with 15 points and
Craig Sabb with 11. Both players grabbed 7 rebounds to go with their points.
Anias Saunders led a balanced attack from Mary Washington (14-4, 0-0 CAC). Saunders scored 24 points on the night and was one of four Eagles to reach double figures. Zack Blue came off the bench for UMW to score 15 points and grab 6 rebounds.
After Mary Washington would open an early 7-2 lead, the Falcons would battle back to tie the game 15-15 with 12:14 remaining in the first half. The Eagles would close the half on a 20-10 run to end the half up by 10 points.
Pfeiffer would see the deficit grow to 17 at three different points in the second half. The Falcons would fight to bring the lead down to 7 with 1:44 left in the game. Forced to foul at that point, the Eagles would go 6-6 from the free throw line to preserve the victory. Mary Washington would go 25-30 from the free throw line for the game.
Despite the loss, Pfeiffer would outshoot Mary Washington from the field 40% to 39%. The Falcons would also out rebound the Eagles 41-39.
Pfeiffer will have a short turn around as they will head to Raleigh, N.C. to face William Peace, Tuesday February 1
st. The game is set to tip at 7:00 p.m.
