Covenant College Nips Pfeiffer Men's Basketball, 86-83
Lookout Mountain, Ga. (Nov. 18, 2022) –  Visiting Pfeiffer University fell down bas as many as 12 points in the first half but Covenant College took an 86-83 home win on Friday evening at the Barnes PE Center in Lookout Mountain, Ga.
Covenant took the early 17-5 lead out of the gate, Pfeiffer would chip away to close the gap to just 36-33 at the half.
The Falcons would then take the two-point lead, their only of the game (51-49) following an
M.J. Armstrong (Gastonia, N.C.) dunk at 12:51. Covenant would regain the lead for good with 9:43 to play (58-56) and would eventually build a 10-point lead (66-56) with 7:10 left to play.
Pfeiffer would trim the Scot lead to 82-80 with 19 seconds to go on a
Marcos Martinez (Orlando, Fla.) fast break layup.
Covenant would go on to hit four straight free throws to increase the lead to 86-80. Pfeiffer would get a three-pointer from Justin Gaten with four seconds to play to provide the 86-83 final.
The Falcons got 16 points from sophomore
Daymon Beckwith (Jacksonville, N.C.) while teammate
Alex Cunningham (Greenwood, S.C.) notched a career-high 15 points in the loss. Martinez would close out the Pfeiffer double-figure scorers, finishing with 11.
Armstrong had a solid outing, just missing a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Falcons will return to The Village on Tuesday, Nov. 22 to host their first home game of the season against local foe Guilford College. Tipoff in Merner Gym is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
