Pfeiffer Falls in Home Opener to Guilford
Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 22, 2022) –  Visiting Guilford College spoiled the 2022-23 home debut for the Pfeiffer University men's basketball team in an 88-74 win over the Falcons in Merner Gym on Tuesday evening.
Guilford's Tyler Dearman was one of five Quakers to achieve double-digit scoring in the game. Dearman led the way by scoring 17 points followed closely by teammate Jorden Davis with 16. Caleb Farrish had 12 while Myles Washington and Luke Proctor had 11 and 10 points, respectively for Guilford.
Pfeiffer sophomore
Daymon Beckwith (Jacksonville, N.C.) went 9-of-11 from the field and was 5-of-6 from long range to lead the way for the Falcons, finishing with 23 points.Â
M.J. Armstrong (Gastonia, N.C.) had 15 points on the night after shooting 7-of-9 from the field.Â
Daniel Fulp (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and
Doug Smith (Badin, N.C.) had six rebounds each to lead Pfeiffer.
The Falcons would shoot 47.7% (31-of-65) from the field and 45% (9-of-20) from beyond the arc compared to a 47.1% (32-of-68) percentage for Guilford. The Quakers would outrebound Pfeiffer 42-37 and would force 17 Falcon turnovers on the night, converting those into 18 points.
The loss drops the Falcons to 2-4 on the season while Guilford improves to 4-2.
Following the Thanksgiving break, Pfeiffer will travel to Mount Berry, Ga. for a 2:00 p.m. nonconference matchup with the Vikings on Saturday, Nov. 26.
