Pfeiffer Women Down Averett 48-38

Misenheimer, N.C. (February 3, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team overcame a tough shooting night to beat Averett 48-38. The Falcons would turn up the defense, limiting the Cougars to 25% shooting on the night and forcing 31 turnovers.

Senior Brina Bentley led the way for the Falcons (10-13, 6-9 USA South). Bentley scored 13 points, including a stellar 9-10 from the free throw line and grabbed 6 rebounds. Freshman Kenadie Hudler added 11 points to be the only other Falcon to reach double figures.

The Cougars (4-15, 4-8 USA South) were led by Jaa Brown. Brown finished the game with 9 points. Teammate Jihnez Hutchinson grabbed a game high 12 rebounds.

For the second straight game, Pfeiffer would find themselves trailing at the half. In the first quarter, Averett would jump out to an 11-point lead before 4 late free throws would cut the margin to 7. Pfeiffer's cold shooting would continue in the second quarter as they entered the half trailing by 9 points.

In the third quarter, Hudler would nail a three pointer to cap an 11-1 run over the first 5 minutes of the quarter to grab a 1-point lead 28-27. Pfeiffer would carry that lead into the fourth quarter. The Falcon defense would limit Averett to 4 points in the third quarter.

The Falcon defense would continue to hold strong as the Falcons would pull away in the fourth quarter to secure the 10-point win. Pfeiffer would hold the Cougars to 12 second half points while scoring 31.

The Pfeiffer women will return to action this Saturday, February 5th against Methodist, in Merner Gymnasium. The game is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
