Pfeiffer Women Down Averett 48-38
Misenheimer, N.C. (February 3, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team overcame a tough shooting night to beat Averett 48-38. The Falcons would turn up the defense, limiting the Cougars to 25% shooting on the night and forcing 31 turnovers.
Senior
Brina Bentley led the way for the Falcons (10-13, 6-9 USA South). Bentley scored 13 points, including a stellar 9-10 from the free throw line and grabbed 6 rebounds. Freshman
Kenadie Hudler added 11 points to be the only other Falcon to reach double figures.
The Cougars (4-15, 4-8 USA South) were led by Jaa Brown. Brown finished the game with 9 points. Teammate Jihnez Hutchinson grabbed a game high 12 rebounds.
For the second straight game, Pfeiffer would find themselves trailing at the half. In the first quarter, Averett would jump out to an 11-point lead before 4 late free throws would cut the margin to 7. Pfeiffer's cold shooting would continue in the second quarter as they entered the half trailing by 9 points.
In the third quarter, Hudler would nail a three pointer to cap an 11-1 run over the first 5 minutes of the quarter to grab a 1-point lead 28-27. Pfeiffer would carry that lead into the fourth quarter. The Falcon defense would limit Averett to 4 points in the third quarter.
The Falcon defense would continue to hold strong as the Falcons would pull away in the fourth quarter to secure the 10-point win. Pfeiffer would hold the Cougars to 12 second half points while scoring 31.
The Pfeiffer women will return to action this Saturday, February 5
th against Methodist, in Merner Gymnasium. The game is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
