Pfeiffer Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Guilford
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 5, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader with ODAC foe Guilford on Saturday afternoon at McBane Field in Greensboro.
The Basics
Game 1 – Pfeiffer def. Guilford, 6-4
Game 2 – Guilford def. Pfeiffer, 11-6 (8 innings) – game called due to darkness

How it Happened – Game 1
After going scoreless in the first, Pfeiffer jumped ahead 2-0 after a two-RBI double from
Alec Bell that allowed
Austin Morton and
Jake Brown to score. The Falcons added another run after a double-steal from
Jacob Williamson and Bell, who scored on the play to make it 3-0.
Guilford responded by scoring on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1. An RBI single followed by a fielder's choice tied the game at 3-3.

Zach Ferrell in the third inning to put Pfeiffer on top 4-3, but a bases-loaded walk for the Quakers in the fourth tied it once more at 4-4.
Carter Merrill doubled in the fifth inning to score Brown, making it 5-4 and in the eighth, with the bases loaded, Morton was hit by a pitch to force home a Falcon run to provide the eventual 6-4 final.
Pitcher
Dakota Caughey earned the save for Pfeiffer. Caughey hit the first Quaker batter in the ninth before forcing the next three batters to fly out to seal the game.
Starting pitcher
Jake Landis earned the win for the Falcons by pitching 3.2 innings striking out one and scattering six hits.
Game Two
Guilford jumped ahead 11-4 at the end of the sixth inning, but allowed Pfeiffer to close to 11-6 in the seventh on a pair of RBI singles from Brown and Morton.
In the ninth, Pfeiffer took the 13-11 lead, but the game was halted due to darkness. By rule, the game reverts to the last fully completed inning, with Guilford being awarded the 11-6 win.
