Game 1
For the second time in a week, freshman catcher
Josh Turner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force home the winning run, with the Falcons downing Averett in the opening game of the USA South series on a windy and chilly Saturday night at Joe Ferebee Field.
Averett went up 3-0 in the fifth inning, but Pfeiffer scratched across a run in the sixth on a
Blake Winebarger RBI single to make it 3-1.
The 3-1 Cougar lead would hold until the bottom of the ninth, but in true dramatic fashion, Pfeiffer's
Austin Morton delivered an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2. With the bases loaded, pinch hitter
Bryce Marsh was hit by the pitch to force across the tying run, making it 3-3.
Turner, who was also hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in a Pfeiffer win over Ferrum earlier in the week, saw a 2-2 pitch hit him in the shoulder to force across the winning run, with Pfeiffer taking the 4-3 win.
Game 2
In game two of the series after falling down 1-0, Pfeiffer went ahead 3-1 in the third thanks to a
Zach Ferrell RBI single and a two-RBI single from
Jake Brown.
In the fourth inning, the Falcons sent 18 batters to the plate in exploding for 14 runs. During the inning, Pfeiffer achieved something, according to available NCAA records,  that has never been documented in NCAA collegiate baseball at any level.
The Falcons hit for the home run cycle, in order, with
Jackson Leck hitting a solo shot to put Pfeiffer up 4-2.Â
Landon Evans then followed with his first career homer, a two-run shot that put Pfeiffer up 6-2. Morton then followed with a three-run home run to make it 9-2. Later in the inning, with bases loaded, Morton again came to the plate, this time lifting a grand slam to left field pushing the Falcon lead to 16-2.
Brady Parker would then close the inning with a two-RBI double down the left field line to further the Pfeiffer lead at 17-2.
Averett would not be able to recover, as the Cougars went down in order in the seventh inning, ending the game via the 12-run rule.
Game 3
In game three of the series, Pfeiffer again found the offense in rolling to a 13-5 win to earn the series sweep.
After going up 1-0 in the first, Pfeiffer had another big inning, this time pushing eight runs across to take the 9-0 lead after three complete innings.
Zach Ferrell hit a home run to right field to make it 2-0 and would later collect two RBI when he punched a single through  the right side to make it 9-0.
The Cougars got a three-run homer from Drew Rabon in the sixth inning to make it 9-3, but Morton stayed hot in the seventh, doubling to left field which drove in two more RBI to bolster the 11-3 lead.
After a
Jake Brown RBI single, freshman
Josh Turner hit his first career home run down the left field link to complete the Falcon scoring at 13-3.
Averett did score a pair of runs in the ninth to provide the 13-5 final score.
Falcon starting pitcher
Dakota Caughey was credited with the win after pitching three innings, allowing no hits while fanning five Cougar batters.
