Virginia Beach, Va. (April 14, 2022) – Virginia Wesleyan University edged visiting Pfeiffer University in a nonconference midweek baseball game on Wednesday afternoon in Virginia Beach, Va.

How it Happened
Trailing 3-0 heading to the third inning, Pfeiffer battled back to take the 4-3 lead after plating four runs in the frame. The Falcons got things started when
Cory Lackey doubled down the left field line that scored
Blake Winebarger. A sacrifice fly from
Zach Ferrell would pull Pfeiffer to within 3-2.Â
Bryce Marsh then hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot, that put Pfeiffer up 4-3.
The Marlins would then tie thigs up in the fourth, but Pfeiffer regained the lead in the fifth after
Alec Bell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, putting the Falcons up 5-4. A
Jackson Leck sacrifice fly would push the Falcon lead to 6-4.
In the sixth inning, with the bases loaded, Bell drew a walk that made it 7-4. A two-RBI from Leck would give Pfeiffer the 9-4 lead.
VWU responded in the home half of the sixth, as they scored four in the frame to cut the Pfeiffer lead to 9-8.

Jake Brown groundout in the seventh helped the Falcons manufacture a run to go up 10-8.
VWU would push ahead in the seventh inning after getting a two-RBI triple followed by an RBI single that gave the Marlins the 11-10 lead. A steal of home would push their lead to 12-10.
Pfeiffer scored one in the ninth on yet another bases loaded walk, but it would be as close as the Falcons would get, falling 12-11.

Cory Lackey went 4-of-6 with an RBI and two runs scored to deal the Falcons.Â
Zach Ferrell was 2-of-4 with an RBI while
Bryce Marsh was 1-of-3 on the day with a home run. Marsh also scored three times on the afternoon.Â
Landon Evans also continued to produce, as he was 2-of-5 with a run scored.

Pfeiffer will jump back into USA South play this upcoming weekend when they travel to take on William Peace University for a three-game set. The Pacers and Falcons will begin the series on Friday, April 15 with a 3:00 p.m. game and will follow with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 16 at Noon. All games will be played at the USA Baseball National Training Facility in Cary, N.C.
