Pfeiffer Tennis Wins 9-0 Over Mary Baldwin

Danville, Va. (April 11, 2022) – Averett University won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches in taking a 9-0 sweep over Pfeiffer University in men's tennis play on Saturday in Danville, Va.

THE BASICS
Averett opened doubles play with an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles with Jorge Gigueroa and Rufus Nurminen taking an 8-0 win over Aleix Garrido and Andres Valdez-Arze.

Alec Taylor and Justin Giesbrecht fell in their match at No. 3 by an 8-2 score while the most competitive doubles match came at No. 1 where Benedikt Pfeiffer and Dylan Masters dropped an 8-7 match to Jay Trip and Stan Martherus, with the tiebreaker going the way of the Cougars by a 7-5 count.

Averett also took all six singles matches.  At No. 1, Benedikt Pfeiffer fought a tough match, falling 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) while Phillip Conaway also pushed his opponent to the limit, eventually falling 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 6 match.

BACK ON COURT
Pfeiffer will host rival Greensboro College on Wednesday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. in a USA South match at the Knapp Tennis Center.
