Softball Splits USA South Doubleheader at Averett
Danville, Va. (April 12, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University softball team took the first game of a doubleheader while dropping the second game  to salvage a split of a USA South doubleheader at Averett University on Tuesday afternoon in Danville, Va.

Game 1 – Pfeiffer def. Averett, 1-0
Game 2 – Averett def. Pfeiffer, 4-3

How it Happened – Game 1
Pfeiffer got and RBI single from freshman
Emma Chopko in the third inning to score the only run of the game in a 1-0 Falcon win.
Ashlynn Kennedy was masterful in the circle by limiting Averett to just three hits while improving her mark to 12-1 on the season. Kennedy struck out five Averett batters in the win.
Game 2
Pfeiffer freshman
Gracie Griffin delivered a two-run single in the third inning to stake the Falcons to the early 2-0 lead. An
Adison Campbell single in the fourth inning would then push the lead to 3-0.
Averett got on the board in the fourth inning with a solo home run to cut the deficit to 3-1 and would tie the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning on a steal of home and an RBI single.
Averett completed the comeback in the seventh inning with a one-out RBI single to take the 4-3 win.
Kennedy suffered just her second pitching loss of the season to fall to 12-2 as she threw a pair of innings while giving up one run on four hits

Pfeiffer will travel for their next USA South doubleheader when they head to Winston-Salem, N.C. to take on Salem College on Saturday, April 16. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Blixt Field.
