Pfeiffer Baseball Belts Mary Baldwin in Doubleheader Sweep
Staunton, Va. (April 30, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University baseball team scored 33 combined runs to sweep Mary Baldwin in a doubleheader by scores of 14-2 and 18-3 on Saturday afternoon at John Moxie Stadium in Staunton, Va.

How it Happened – Game 1
The visiting Falcons blasted four home runs, two from
Bryce Marsh and one each from
Jacob Williamson and
Landon Evans in the 14-2 win.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Pfeiffer's bats came alive in the second inning when Evans' started the Falcon scoring on an RBI single Willliamson then singled home a pair of runs to give the Falcons to 3-2 lead. Another Falcon run would cross on a Cory Lacky RBI single to put Pfeiffer ahead 4-2.
Bryce Marsh would hit the first of his two long-balls on the day, a solo shot in the third to go up 5-2. Williamson would then send a three-run shot over the wall to push the Pfeiffer lead to 8-2. Williamson would collect another RBI in the fifth on an RBI single, followed by Marsh's two-run blast in the sixth inning, making it 11-2.Â
Evans would get his second homer of the season in the sixth and would also single in the seventh to provide the 14-2 final.
Collectively, Evans and Williamson each went 4-of-4 from the plate, with Evans scoring four times and collecting four RBI. Williamson would have six RBI and would score twice.
Pfeiffer pitcher
John Owen pitched a seven-inning complete-game, allowing just a pair of runs while fanning eight MBU batters to improve his season record to 4-4.
How it Happened – Game 2
After jumping ahead 1-0 in the first, Pfeiffer plated six runs in the second inning with
Austin Morton delivering a bases-clearing, three-run double and
Bryce Marsh hitting his third home run of the day, a two run shot that put the Falcons up 7-0.
in the fourth,
Zach Ferrell would hit a solo shot to go up 8-0.Â
Blake Winebarger would get a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 9-0 in the fifth, followed by a
Jacob Williamson RBI single that made it 10-0.
MBU would get a two-run homer in the fifth, but Pfeiffer added eight more runs in the seventh to go up 18-2. In the inning, Williamson would hit a two-run home run and Morton would get an RBI single.Â
Alec Bell and Evans would get RBI on sacrifice fly's and Williamson would get another RBI on a single.
MBU added a solo homer in the seventh to provide the 18-3 final.
Pfeiffer's
Dakota Caughey got the win to improve the 5-1 on the season, as he pitched four innings allowsin just three hits while striking out five. Falcon reliver
Thad Lewis threw three innings and struck out one while allowing three runs on three hits.
