Pfeiffer Men's Lacrosse Edged by Southern Virginia 13-11 in USA South Title Game
Buena Vista, Va. (May 7, 2022) – Top-seeded Southern Virginia edged third-seeded Pfeiffer University 13-11 in the USA South Championship game on a cool and wet Knights Stadium on Saturday afternoon in Buena Vista, Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Pfeiffer got on the board first with a pair of first quarter goals, the first from senior
Jacob Leone at 13:22 and the second from fellow senior
Treven King at 12:24.
SVU would score the next three goals to close the quarter to go up 3-2.
Pfeiffer opened the second quarter at 13:07 on a goal from
Caleb Connell to tie the game at 3-3. Southern Virginia then reeled off three straight scores to go up 6-3, but Pfeiffer sophomore
Quinn Becraft's score at 3:32 closed to 6-4. SVU added a goal at 1:50, but Pfeiffer answered with 47 seconds before halftime with another goal by King, to provide the 7-5 margin at halftime.
Pfeiffer's
Brayden Sokolowski scored an unassisted goal at 14:50 of the third quarter to draw to 7-6, but SVU answered again, this time with an unassisted goal at 11:44 to push their lead to 8-6. King would score again at 10:37 to again get to within one at 8-7.
SVU once again went on a three-goal spurt, this time to end the third quarter, taking the 11-7 lead into the fourth.
Falcon sophomore
Nick Pekins made it 11-8 at 13:36 on an assist from Sokolowski, but SVU responded again with a pair of goals at 11:04 and 9:45 to lead 13-8.
The Falcons would mount a furious comeback, which was started by a goal from goalkeeper
Matt Stocks at 4:57. Another Becraft goal at 2:28 inched the Falcons closer to 13-10 and with 44 seconds to play, Sokolowski trimmed the lead to 13-11.
Pfeiffer would not be able to get any closer, as the Knights were able to melt the clock in earning their first USA South Championship.
Inside the Box Score
Treven King led the way for Pfeiffer, scoring three goals while
Brayden Sokolowski and Becraft each scored two goals. Stocks, Leone, Connell and Pekins each scored once for the Falcons in the loss.
Faceoff specialist
Tucker Hill was 19-of 28 on faceoffs and also controlled eight ground balls.Â
Jaylin Jones had six ground balls for Pfeiffer, while
Jeremiah Schenck caused a team-high four turnovers.
The loss completes the season for the Falcons, as they finished with a 12-4 overall record.
