Pfeiffer Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season With a Pair of 5-4 Wins
Winston-Salem, N.C.– The Pfeiffer University women's tennis team opened the 2022-23 season with a pair of 5-4 dual team wins over Division II Winston-Salem State and Salem on Sept. 17 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

THE BASICS vs. WSSU
The Falcon duo of
Megan Rekieta and
Alison Sloop claimed their match at No. 1 doubles with a hard-fought 8-7 win. The match went to a tiebreaker, with the Falcons coming up with a 10-5 win.
At No. 2, the pair of
Elithe Hudson and
Riley Isley were narrowly defeated by an 8-7 score, with the WSSU tandem of Shajada Barrett and Anthonia Smith winning the tiebreaker 10-2.
Pfeiffer would then win the No, 3 doubles match by default.
In singles play, Sloop won her match at No. 2 singles by a 6-4, 6-1 score while Hudson prevailed in her No. 3 match by a 6-1, 6-0 count.
WSSU would win the singles matches at No.1, No. 4 and, No. 5.
THE BASICS vs. Salem
In the nonconference match with Salem, Rekieta and Sloop once again won their No. 1 doubles match this time by an 8-4 final. Hudson and Isley would win their No. 2 match by an 8-3 final while the No. 3 pair of
Arianna Avila and
Isa Garcia dropped an 8-3 decision.
In singles, Pfeiffer would take wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 6, with Rekieta, Isley and
Emily Moore taking wins.
Rekieta won her match 6-0, 6-1 while Isley had little trouble in her Nol. 2 match, winning by a 6-1, 6-0 score.
Moore came back from dropped the first set to take an 0-6, 6-2, 10-3 win in the No. 6 singles match.
BACK ON COURT
The Falcons will return to the Knapp Tennis Center on Sunday, Sept. 25 to host the Pfeiffer Fall Invitational. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
