Pfeiffer Men Take Down Southern Virginia, 85-64
Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 14, 2023) – The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team never trailed in the second half and scored 52 points en route to a convincing 85-64 home win over Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon in Merner Gym.
Pfeiffer (5-8, 2-2 USA South) never let SVU to within eight points while building a lead to as many as 20 before winning by the final 21-point margin. Pfeiffer shot 43.2% from the field and 50% in the second half while draining six second-half three pointers. Pfeiffer was also 8-of-9 from the free throw line in the second half and 12-of-15 for the game.
The Falcons forced SVU into 16 turnovers while converting those miscues into 20 points. The Falcons only turned the ball over six times, which is a season-low.
Sophomore
M.J. Armstrong (Gastonia, N.C.) had his best outing as a Falcon, scoring 26 points and hauling in 11 rebounds. Armstrong finished 12-of-14 from the field and also had a block, an assist and a pair of steals.
Teammates
Rashamel Butler (Ridgeland, S.C.) and
Taylan Rowe (Oakboro, N.C.) also scored in double-figures, with Butler going for 15 points and five rebounds and Rowe scoring 10 points while securing five rebounds. Rowe also added five assists and three steals.
Donte Forrester-Jhagroo (Tanmpa, Fla.) also scored his career-best after going 4-of-6 from the field with a pair of three pointers to finish with 10 points.
Southern Virginia (9-7, 2-3 USA South) got a team-best 20 points and 13 rebounds from Koa Baker.
Pfeiffer will step out of conference for their next game on Wednesday, Jan. 18 when they host Johnson & Wales for a 7:00 p.m. start in Merner Gym.
