Fourth Quarter Run Pushes Methodist Past Pfeiffer Women's Basketball

Fayetteville, N.C. (Jan. 28, 2023) – Methodist University used a 12-2 fourth quarter run to push the Monarchs to a 72-60 USA South women's basketball win over Pfeiffer University on Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, N.C.

Trailing by only four in the fourth quarter, Pfeiffer sophomore Alexis Bynum (Charlotte, N.C.) knocked down a three-pointer to pull the Falcons to within 61-60 with 3:16 to play.

Methodist then embarked on a game-clinching 12-2 run over the final three minutes to claim the USA South win.

The Monarchs (12-6, 8-4 USA South) shot just 33.8% (23-of-68) from the field, but used their defense to force 22 Pfeiffer turnovers, converting those miscues into 19 points.

Pfeiffer fared better from the field, shooting 41.8% (23-of-55) including eight from long range.

The Falcons once again had a pair with double-double outings, with sophomore Tanaesha Ellson (Asheboro, N.C.) scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while freshman Hannah Isley (China Grove, N.C.) had 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Isley's double-double makes it her third straight in as many games.  Bynum was the other Falcon in double-digits, finishing with 12 points, four assists and a pair of steals in the loss.

Pfeiffer drops to 4-13 overall and 2-9 in league play with the loss.

The Falcons will return to The Village to open up a three-game home stand on Tuesday, Jan. 31 by entertaining the Tornados of Brevard College in a 7:00 p.m. USA South matchup in Merner Gym.
