Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Clamps Down on Brevard in 59-49 Win

Misenheimer, N.C. (Feb. 1, 2023) – The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team used a high-pressure defense to limit visiting Brevard to just a 25% shooting effort in a 59-49 USA South win in Merner Gym on Tuesday night.

After trailing 29-26 at halftime, Pfeiffer allowed Brevard to jump to a 36-29 lead  at the 6:22 mark.  After Brevard made it 46-38 at 3:43, the Tornados went cold, as Pfeiffer went on a 20-0 run throughout the fourth quarter to take the 58-46 lead with 2:08 remaining.

Brevard scored just three points in the quarter, with Calli Wells hitting a three-pointer with 57 seconds remaining in the game.  All told, Pfeiffer held Brevard to a 1-of-16 (6.2%) shooting effort in the fourth quarter.

Individually, Pfeiffer's sophomore duo of Alexis Bynum (Charlotte, N.C.) and Tanaesha Ellison (Asheboro, N.C.) each poured in 19 points.  Bynum was a perfect 4-of-4 from long range while Ellison secured 12 rebounds for the double-double.

Freshman Hannah Isley (China Grove, N.C.) narrowly missed her fourth straight double-double, finishing with eight points and 12 rebounds.  Both Isley and Ellison had a game-high six steals in the win.

The win improves the Falcons to 5-13 overall and 3-9 in USA South play while Brevard drops to 13-6 and 9-3 in league play.

Pfeiffer will return to play on Friday night, Feb. 3 with a 7:00 p.m. home game against Salem College.
