Meredith Squeezes Past Pfeiffer Women's Basketball 67-66

Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 7, 2023) – Meredith College used a layup from Kate Perko with 11 seconds remaining to take a narrow 67-66 USA South women's basketball win over Pfeiffer University at Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Perko, who scored 34 points and grabbed 22 rebounds, finished a layup to give Meredith the 67-66 lead.

Pfeiffer had a pair of chances to take the win in the waning seconds.  The first opportunity came when a streaking Alexis Bynum (Charlotte, N.C.) had a layup opportunity with three seconds fall off the left side of the rim.  Meredith's Mikayla Thompson rebounded Bynum's miss, but was called for travelling, turning the ball over to the Falcons with one more opportunity.

Sophomore Kenadie Hudler (Jefferson, N.C.) was unable to connect on her three-point attempt from the right wing, enabling Meredith to escape with the one-point win.

Pfeiffer had four players achieve double-figures, with Bynum leading the way with 16 points.  Tanaesha Ellison (Asheboro, N.C.) had 13 points while freshman Hannah Isley (China Grove, N.C.) had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, good for her first double-double of her Falcon career.  Kayla Soublet (Hickory, N.C.) had a career-high 10 points to round out the double-digit efforts for the Falcons.

The loss drops Pfeiffer to 2-9 overall and 0-5 in USA South play while Meredith jumps to 2-11 overall and 2-4 in league action.

Pfeiffer will return to play on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Methodist University in Merner Gym.
