Pfeiffer Men's Soccer Falls to Brevard in PK's at USA South Tournament
Brevard, N.C. (Oct 31, 2023) – The fifth-seeded Pfeiffer University men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie with fourth-seeded Brevard College but fell in the penalty kick shootout by a 5-3 score in the first round of the USA South Men's Soccer Tournament at a chilly Ives-Lemel Family Field at Brevard College.

How It Happened
Pfeiffer was able to grab the early 1-0 lead in the 27
th minute with freshman
Benjamin Landaverde notched his second career goal on an assist from
Andry Rosales.
Brevard would draw even in the 40
th minute with an Adam Miller goal.
Tied at halftime 1-1, Brevard got the go-ahead goal in the 78
th minute when Ryan Lynch scored his 12
th goal of the season on an assist from Sam O'Callaghan.
Pfeiffer freshman
Alex Michael would bring Pfeiffer to 2-2 in the 82nd minute on an assist from graduate student
Nico Soriano. Soriano sent a high ball that bounced and Michael was able to get a head on the ball and over the Brevard goalkeeper, who was playing out of goal. The ball took several bounces before going in, making it 2-2.
Neither team would be able to score the rest of regulation or in the overtime periods, which led to a penalty kick shootout.
Pfeiffer missed their first attempt, and Brevard gained the 1-0 advantage after the first round. Pfeiffer did hit their remaining kicks, but Brevard did as well, sending the Tornados to the USA South semifinals with the 5-3 shooting win.
The Tornados will advance to take on top-seeded Methodist in the semifinals.
The penalty kick shootout setback concludes the season for Pfeiffer.
