Falcon Volleyball Falls 3-1 to William Peace

Misenheimer, N.C. (Oct. 4, 2023)  --The Pfeiffer University volleyball team won the first set, but couldn't hold on and fell in four sets (29-27, 23-25, 15-25, 17-25) to the visting William Peace Pacers Wednesday evening at home at Merner Gym.

The loss dropped Pfeiffer's record to 5-9 overall and 1-7 in USA South action.

The Falcons were led by a double-double from Morgan Shrader, who registered 20 kills and 14 digs on the day. Mattie Hinson also added nine kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Gabby Edwards chipped in for with 23 digs to go with three blocks from Madison Tate.

Game Notes

» Madison Halsey had a team-high two aces in the loss.
» Morgan Shrader registered a double-double with 20 kills and 14 digs
» Morgan Shrader had a match-high 20 kills for Pfeiffer.
» Pfeiffer got a match-high 23 digs from Gabby Edwards.
» Pfeiffer attackers were helped by a match-high 22 assists from Kylee Mayberry.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Falcons came out on top of a close first set, winning 29-27 in a stanza that was tied 12 times and had eight lead changes. The Falcons opening set win came in a stanza where 17 of their 29 points came via the kill.

SET 2 | Pfeiffer then fell in set two 25-23, evening things at a set each. The Falcons fought back from a seven-point 17-10 deficit, but William Peace held on to take the set.

SET 3 | Pfeiffer fell again in the third set to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Falcons fell in a tough set 25-15. Pfeiffer trailed by as many as 10 points as William Peace grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 in a set that was tied up five times before the Pacers took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 4 | Pfeiffer lost set four and the match, falling 25-17. The Falcons trailed by as many as 10 points as William Peace grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 and Pfeiffer wasn't able to recover in a set that was knotted up two times before the Pacers took over.

Next Match
Pfeiffer will take to the road for a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 7.  The Falcons will take on host N.C. Wesleyan at noon in a USA South match at Noon and will follow that with a nonconference tilt against Johnson & Wales University at 2:00 p.m.
