Virginia Beach, Va. (Nov. 11, 2023) --The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team once again got a strong showing from the bench, but fell 81-72 to the Salisbury Seagulls at TowneBank Arena at the Jane P. Batten Student Center in Virginia Beach, Va. on Saturday afternoon
The Falcons (1-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Clayton Robinson, who had 19 points and two steals. Daymon Beckwith tacked on 14 points while Alex Cunningham helped out with 13 points from the bench.
Led by Jaylen Hamilton's four offensive rebounds, Pfeiffer did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in nine second chance points.
Pfeiffer forced 13 Salisbury turnovers while committing 12 themselves in Saturday's game. The Falcons turned those takeaways into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Robinson's two steals led the way for Pfeiffer.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 18-15 advantage, Pfeiffer went on a 7-0 run with 10:38 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Andrew Peacock, to increase its lead to 25-15. The Falcons then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 43-31 advantage. Pfeiffer capitalized on 10 Salisbury turnovers in the period, turning them into 15 points on the other end of the floor.
Salisbury then erased the Pfeiffer lead in the game's final quarter for an 81-72 comeback victory. Pfeiffer got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 13 of its 29 total points.
