Lynchburg, Va. (Nov. 15, 2023) --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team out-rebounded the Lynchburg Hornets 39-33 on the way to an 83-81 win on the road Wednesday.

The Falcons (2-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Justin Gaten, who had 17 points. Daymon Beckwith tacked on 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals and Daniel Fulp chipped in as well with 13 points.

Pfeiffer grabbed 39 rebounds in Wednesday's game compared to Lynchburg's 33, led by Clayton Robinson's nine boards. The Falcons also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 10 rebounds into 14 second chance points.

The Pfeiffer defense caused its share of mistakes in Wednesday's game, forcing 15 Lynchburg turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 10 points on the other end of the floor. Beckwith's four steals led the way individually for the Falcons.

How It Happened

After falling behind 27-20, Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run with 6:15 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Robinson, to narrow its deficit to 27-26. The Falcons then closed the rest of the gap and grabbed a 44-41 lead heading into halftime. Pfeiffer relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 44 points.

Pfeiffer kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Fulp's layup, to grow the lead to 55-45 with 15:52 to go in the contest. The Hornets narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still held on for the 83-81 win. Pfeiffer took care of business in the paint, recording 28 of its 39 points in the lane.
