Greensboro, N.C. (Nov. 21, 2023) --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team got a 31-point performance from the bench, but fell 64-57 to the Guilford Quakers on the road Tuesday at Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse
Doug Smith led the Falcons (2-3) with eight points, two steals and three blocks. Daniel Fulp added five points and two steals and Daymon Beckwith chipped in as well with 12 points from the bench.
The Pfeiffer offense was very productive from beyond the arc, knocking down eight threes on 23 attempts. Beckwith was the most prolific shooter for the Falcons, draining four treys in the contest.
The Pfeiffer defense held Guilford shooters to only 34.5 percent from the field, including 21.4 percent from three-point range. The Falcons also kept Tyler Dearman to 4-of-15 shooting in the game.
How It Happened
After falling behind 7-0, Pfeiffer went on an 8-0 run with 16:10 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Donte Forrester-Jhagroo, to take an 8-7 lead. The Falcons then added four points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 32-27 advantage. Pfeiffer got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 13 of its 32 total points.
Guilford proceeded to take a 42-40 lead before Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Alex Cunningham's layup, to seize a 45-42 lead with 12:29 to go in the contest. Guilford re-asserted control, outscoring the Falcons 22-12 the rest of the way to hand Pfeiffer the 64-57 loss. Pfeiffer shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting four shots from deep to score 12 of its 25 points.
