MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Dec. 2, 2023) --The Pfeiffer women's basketball team held Mary Baldwin to just 10 percent from beyond the arc in a 1-for-10 shooting performance, but fell 38-37 to the Fighting Squirrels at home in Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons (2-5, 1-3 USA South) had two players score in double figures, led by sophomore Miya Horton, who had 10 points and six steals. Junior Alexis Bynum added 10 points and five steals and Senior Angel Roland added eight rebounds, two steals and two points.

Pfeiffer's defense held Mary Baldwin to only 10 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 32.6 percent from the field. The Fighting Squirrels did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with eight offensive rebounds and managed four second chance points.

How It Happened
After jumping out to a 6-4 advantage, Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run with 6:05 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Bynum, to increase its lead to 11-4. The Falcons then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 14-8 advantage. Pfeiffer relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 14 points.

The Falcons could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 19-18.

Pfeiffer's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Falcons faced a 29-25 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Pfeiffer played well near the basket, scoring four of its seven points in the paint.

Pfeiffer narrowed its deficit in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump, losing 38-37. Pfeiffer took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 12 points in the paint.
